The President made this claim in his State of the Union address: “no challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change.†This is, perhaps, the President’s most irresponsible and alarmist statement of the speech. The claim of man-made global climate change is founded on models that have been shown to be rigged to produce an outcome in support of the environmentalist agenda. So called “climate change†is not the greatest threat to future generations; the wholesale murder of them through abortion is a threat to future generations, our $18 trillion deficit is a threat, our abandonment ofBiblical Christianity and the morals contained therein is a threat…climate change (while climates and their changes certainly can produce dangerous weather) is not our greatest threat.
First off, the notion of global climate change assumes that we humans know what the “normal climate†is for our planet. The global thermostat is being fiddled with, by we carbon belching humans and if we ain’t careful we’re gonna roast! But the evidence points to the fact that a warmer climate is better for us as humans and that we are actually heading into a warmer eon from a period of relative coolness (in which the life-expectancy was rather shorter). Longer life span also means more humans living long, more able to innovate new ways of feeding more people and helping to take care of this home God has given us! We must not assume that we know what is the precise ideal climate for earth.
Furthermore, the modern scientific community is functioning under a false premise of what nature itself is. We must recognize that this world in which we live is subject to the laws of nature, as well to the God who made those laws. The mindset behind much of this climate change science is that we know what is best for the planet without consulting the Manufacturer’s opinion on the matter. If we assume that we are all just shrapnel from a big bang, that has oozed its way to growing nostrils and iPhones then what does it matter what we do with out planet? Further, what should be our goal in the handling of our home planet?!
Without the underlying understanding that God made the earth, and has commanded us to be good stewards of what He has entrusted, we will certainly be ruled by fear when we look at this earth that is groaning under the weight of sin. The underlying agenda of the green movement isn’t really a green planet, it is green in their pockets, by controlling and dictating to the rest of mankind. If we view mankind as a species in mid-evolution, then some will inevitably come to the conclusion that “we need to help mankind evolve…and some of these people are destroying the planet, so if we want to survive, we who are in power need to figure out how to ‘manage’ mankindâ€. In essence, those advocating for reform in order to address “climate change†usually bring along with it ideas of population control, eugenics, abortion, and as always, higher taxes.
They view man as the problem, yet theologically speaking we as Christians would assert that redeemed mankind actually has the solution for the problems we face upon this earth. Our solution? We are made in God’s image, and have God’s revealed purpose for this world, and therefore we ought to take very good care of this earth. God will someday remake the heavens and the earth after the Second Advent of Christ. However, until that day we ought to obey His creation mandate of filling this earth, having dominion over it, tending it, keeping it, and producing in it means of making this fallen earth better.
Finally, notice that the President’s proposal of dealing with climate change is to introduce more government control, rather than inspiring more productivity and obedience to God’s marching orders to how we are to use this world He’s given us! Humanists like taxes and control of other humans; Christians would prefer to consult the Owner’s Manual on this crazy planet and operate accordingly! Our goal is to fill this earth with the knowledge of the glory of God, and yes that means we ought to be responsible in tending to this planet. But though Adam’s race got this planet in this whole mess, it is the Last Adam who is getting us out of it!
