Baptizing our children in infancy is often beset by the sin of putting things on autopilot. The duty then rests upon us to vigilantly pair this Gospel Sacrament with the direct Gospel Word. Paedobaptism isn’t wishful thinking. We aren’t handing out parachutes during a plane crash and saying, “Golly kid, hope you make it.”
Rather, we dwell in the strong fortress of Christ’s covenant. This child is born into that fortress. Every OT iteration of the Covenant is marked by child-inclusion. Christ is the fullness of that Covenant. And so it isn’t amiss to place this watery promise upon our children in faith. We abide in the fortress of deliverance, Jesus Christ, and so we trust that our descendants will dwell in Him as well, by faith, to a thousand generations.
So welcome our sister to Jesus Christ…
